Getting Started

Throughout the course of the lab, I was in a loop of three moods -- internally screaming, self comforting, and utterly surpised.

Setting up the breadboard

I started with understanding eletricity, the usage of different components, and different ways to power the breadboard.

Even with the instructions, I had a few setbacks with connecting to the right voltage bus. After examining the instructions more carefully, and going back to the theory in order to understand how a circuit works, I was finally able to light up my first red led light bulb!

At first, I did not pay attention or understood the difference between the two different legs of the LED. But now I understand the role of LEDs as diodes, and can only function properly with the right orientation. When I think of it as a battery, and imagine the path of how the current flows, everything made more sense.

Swtiched Circuit

I moved on with a switched circuit, I encountered a couple problems again with connecting to the wrong places, as well as some of the qualities of the red LED light bulbs. At times one would light up and the other one won’t. Or sometimes the LEDs were not exactly in place, causing the light to be very dimmed. Once I checked to make sure everything was placed correctly, I was able to get the swtich to work.

Adding a few more LEDs to the swtiched circuit...

At first, I didn’t fully understand the use of a resistor, I went back a few times to refresh my memory on the digital inputs and outputs section. I found myself feeling a bit clueless on where to place the resistor without looking at the instructions. Now I think I understand that resistors are used to restrist the flow of current,

The initial frustration with setting up the breadboard, and using the nano were overcomed by the satisfaction of learning something new. I would love to spend more time next week expanding on my learning and experimenting more instead of just following the instructions.
