PERFORMING ONLINE - FALL 2025
01 Be Yourself Online
Dream MachineI created this dream machine message generator with real texts and responses about my dreams between me and my friends. When you click on the button at the bottom, one of my dreams from the past will appear.
I first started documenting my dreams when I was doing streaks with my friends on Snapchat in college. Instead of just sending a selfie every day, I wanted to entertain my friends with my bizarre dreams as soon as I woke up. I stopped documenting for a while once Snapchat died down. But one day, my friend sent me all the screenshots she took of my dream updates. I found them to be quite endearing since they usually pinpoint the people in my life at the time, the source of my stress, and sometimes just random things out of nowhere. So I started documenting my dreams as much as I could remember to this day.
My form of documentation is usually the notes app on my phone, or sometimes iMessages. I dream every day, and usually it's about people I actually know, whether that's people I've met in real life or celebrities, and about realistic things that could actually happen. Sometimes these dreams trigger really strong emotions, and I need a second to come back to reality after I wake up. Typing them out helps me differentiate what's real and slowly process my emotions. I’ve never shared them publicly, only to my close friends who hopefully find them funny.
Watching Mackenzie Thomas reading her childhood journey online inspired me to share my dreams more publicly. Reading my past dreams allows me to appreciate the people in my life at the time, and makes me feel a bit sillier about life.
