TIME - FALL 2025 - Jeffrey Feddersen

02 Temporal Pattern

These are two of the same cyanotype image being exposed under the sun for different amount of time. One for six minutes and one for eight minutes.

I’ve been making these cyanotype animations, where I export a video into separate frames, process them with cyanotype and then piece them together to making animation. I find the cyanotype to be an interesting medium since the exposure of the sun reveals the image, and the exposure time, the angle of the sun, the quality of the paper, and the cyanotype chemical are all imporant factors in producing an image.

Nowadays we’re used to mass image making, taking photos with our phones, survillance camera taking data from our daily lives, Google Street View capturing every corner of our neighborhoods. This process allows me to slow time down, and carefully look at each frame with a split second.
